How to upgrade the firmware 1. Download and save the latest firmware (zip or exe file) to the local drive of the PC. 2. Download the Windows GUI setup program to the local drive. 3. Extract the files with Winzip into a folder (such as FW420). 4. Install the GUI setup program by double clicking "setup.exe". 5. Use a RJ45 cable connect a PC to a local port of the SR-500 4-port router. 6. Power on the router and restart the PC. 7. From Start/program, run IP Sharing Setup program. A windows box will pop out and show "untitled 192.168.1.254" 8. From "File" choose "Upgrade Firmware" 9. Click "Specify File" and select the file Firmware.bin from the local drive. 10. Press "Start" button. 11. Wait for 1 minute to update the firmware. 12. Press "Finish" button. 13. Wait for 20 seconds to reset the router. Note: 1. The router with different FCC Reg. number uses different firmware. Double check the router to see if it is CAS1040 or CAS2040. Use wrong firmware may damage the router. 2. If the router fails to upgrade the firmware because of the version protection (message "bad firmware..."), downgrade the firmware to version 4.20 and then upgrade it to the latest version.
